Belanda di Tanah Karo, membuat Belanda tidak bisa masuk ke wilayah Aceh.
Juni 1949. Seorang lelaki ber kulit sawo matang dengan pos tur tinggi
sekitar 175 cm, me natap jauh dari atas pegu nung an di Tanah Karo.
Mengenakan seragam militer berwarna krem, pakaian itu terlihat agak
kebesaran dari ukuran tubuhnya yang ramping. Di kerah bajunya, ter semat
pangkat mayor tentara. Lelaki serdadu berusia 28 tahun itu adalah Mayor
Jamin Ginting Suka.
Ia kemudian lebih senang menying kat namanya dengan ejaan: Jamin Gin tings. Dia adalah Komandan Resimen IV atau dikenal juga dengan sebutan Re simen Rimba Raya (R3) yang merupakan bagian dari Divisi X Tentara Republik Indonesia (TRI). Namun pada 1 Oktober 1948, Presi den Sukarno membuat keputusan reor ganisasi dan rasionalisasi TRI. Seluruh perwira diturunkan pangkatnya satu tingkat. Maka, Letkol Jamin Gintings pun menjadi Mayor Jamin Gintings. "Saya tidak peduli dengan pangkat dan jabatan. Yang paling penting, saya harus mengusir penjajah dari Bumi Indo nesia," ungkap Jamin saat menghadapi pe nurunan pangkatnya.
Pak Kores, julukan nama yang diberikan anak buahnya, memang dike nal sebagai komandan lapangan. Kata kores, merupakan akronim dari koman dan resimen. (Pada era saat ini disebut Danmen). Sebagai komandan resimen, Jamin Gintings terkejut ketika menda patkan kabar pada 19 Desember 1948.
Pasukan militer Belanda telah me nyerang dan menduduki ibukota Re publik di Yogyakarta. Bukan itu saja, Presiden Sukarno dan Wakil Presiden Mohammad Hatta bersama sejumlah petinggi Republik telah ditawan tentara Belanda.
"Para prajurit, bintara dan perwira tentara Republik. Melalui siaran radio dari Yogyakarta, ternyata Belanda telah mengingkari janjinya dengan mendu duki Yogyakarta. Presiden dan Wapres kita, telah ditawan Belanda," kata Jamin dalam pidatonya di halaman Markas Resimen IV di Macan Kumbang, pada 25 Desember 1948.
"Kita juga dapat kabar bahwa Sektor III di Dairi di bawah pimpinan Mayor Selamat Ginting sudah diserang Belanda. Saya belum dapat perintah dari atasan langsung di Divisi X. Tetapi demi keselamatan Negara Republik Indonesia, saya bertanggung jawab untuk mulai menyerang Belanda," ujar Jamin dengan bersemangat.
Selaku Komandan Resimen IV, ia memerintahkan untuk menyerang dae rah-daerah yang diduduki Belanda, se belum Belanda menyerang lebih da hulu. "Pertama, kita duduki Marding ding dan Lau Baleng!" teriak Jamin dengan nada berapi-api, seperti tertulis dalam buku ‘Bukit Kadir’ oleh Jamin Gintings (1921- 1974), editor Payung Bangun, penerbit Elpres, cetakan kedua, tahun 2009.
Maka, berangkatlah anggota pasuk an Batalyon XIV dari asramanya di Ku ta cane ke Lau Baleng dengan berjalan ka ki melewati Lawe Sigala-gala, Lawe Dua, Lawe Perbunga, dan terus hingga ke Kampung Kalimantan. Pertempuran he bat sudah terjadi pada 27 Desember 1948.
Begitu juga pasukan dari Batalyon XV berangkat menuju Mardingding pa da 28 Desember 1948. Di bukit itulah me reka menyerang pos militer Belanda yang berada di bawahnya.
Namun de ngan bantuan panser dan mortir, pa suk an Belanda menggempur lereng bukit. Tujuh anak buah Jamin Gintings, gugur dalam pertempuran sengit itu. Salah satunya adalah Letnan Kadir Saragih. Bukit itu kemudian dinamakan sebagai Bukit Kadir.
Namun, Belanda juga kehilangan delapan prajuritnya dan dua orang yang berhasil ditawan, yakni Van Werven dan De Ruyter. Dalam buku Hans Post, Bed wongen Banjir, Medan, halaman 180-181, dalam terjemahannya berbunyi: Belanda mengakui Resimen Infanteri 5-10 mendapatkan serangan dari gerom bolan yang mengadakan infiltrasi di sebelah barat laut Kabanjahe. Bahkan sampai jarak 40 meter dari pos militer Belanda. Kampung Juhar, dekat Tiga binanga diduduki kaum ekstrimis.
Setelah pertempuran Mardingding, ia pun mulai mengubah pola gerilya. Jika pada masa agresi militer pertama mene rapkan pola gerakan mundur teratur sambil bertempur, maka pada agresi kedua, pasukannya melancarkan gerakan maju teratur. Ia memompa semangat pasukannya sambil menyanyi kan lagulagu perjuangan asal Tanah Karo.
Sergap konvoi
Sejak Januari 1949, dimulai taktik gerilya. Diawali dengan serangan pada 20 Januari 1949 menyergap iring-iringan konvoi pasukan Belanda di Tigakicat, dekat kampung Berastepu. Kemudian menyergap konvoi Belanda di jalan menuju kampung Kutabuluh Berteng. Satu panser dan truk militer Belanda rusak, enam orang serdadu Belanda tewas, dan beberapa lainnya mengalami luka parah akibat tembakan pasukan Jamin Gintings.
Sampai April 1949. Tercatat, terjadi pertempuran di Lau Solu dan Lau Mulgap yang menewaskan 13 personil militer Belanda. Tidak kurang dari 17 kali serangan terhadap konvoi pasukan Belanda dari Medan menuju Brastagi. "Serangan-serangan pasukan Jamin Gintings berpengaruh terhadap jalannya perundingan Indonesia dan Belanda, sehingga meningkatkan posisi tawar Indonesia," kata Suprayitno, doktor sejarah dari Universitas Sumatra Utara (USU) di Medan, Senin (9/6/2014).
Begitulah, sejak Agresi Militer I dan II, pasukan Resimen IV yang dipimpin Jamin Gintings terus-menerus terlibat pertempuran dengan Belanda dari Medan Area, Tanah Karo, Tanah Alas, sampai Lang kat. Pasukannya telah ber operasi ra tusan kilometer jauhnya dari pang kal an pasukan untuk bertempur di Mar ding ding, Lau Baleng, Lau Mulgap, Buluh Pan cur, Tiga Bi nanga, Kineppen, Kinang kong, Sem ba he, Sibolangit, Kutu Buluh, Kuta Buluh Berteng, Barus Jahe, Tanjung Barus, Kuta Tengah, Lau Solu, Lau Ka pur, dan lain-lain.
Bagi Belanda, Jalan Lau Baleng dan Mardingding disebut sebagai ‘doden weg’ yang artinya jalan maut. Mereka menya takan sebagai pertempuran tujuh bulan yang berat.
Maut menjadi tamu di Tanah Karo. Sehingga mempengaruhi psikologi tentara Belanda akibat se rangan dadak an serta ranjau darat yang ditanam pasukan Resimen IV.
Dalam periode perang kemerdekaan itulah pasukan Resimen IV bergerilya di Tanah Alas, Tanah Karo, Langkat Hulu, Deli Hulu, dan Serdang Hulu. Gerakan pasukan Jamin Gintings itu membuk tikan kemampuannya menjaga keutuhan dan eksistensi wilayah Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia (NKRI).
"Serangan militer pasukannya ber hasil menyelamatkan marwah Republik Indonesia di mata dunia internasional. Serangan militer pasukannya, mampu menghalau gerak maju pasukan Belanda ke Tanah Alas," ujar Usman Pelly, guru besar antropologo sosial budaya dari Universitas Negeri Medan (Unimed), Selasa (10/6/2014).
Berdasarkan Perjanjian Renville, Januari 1948, Tanah Karo sampai per batasan Tanah Alas (Kutacane) dinyata kan sebagai daerah kekuasaan pasukan Belanda. Sehingga, markas Resimen IV Tanah Karo yang dipimpin Jamin Gintings harus hijrah ke Kutacane.
Akibatnya, daerah Aceh tengah ter bu ka untuk diserang langsung oleh ten tara Belanda. Jamin pun meng ubah strategi politik dan menjadikan Tanah Karo tetap sebagai daerah perta hanan terdepan bagi Aceh. Caranya, dengan menyerang langsung benteng pertahanan Belanda dan menciptakan perang gerilya.
Pasukan Belanda akhirnya berputarputar antara Brastagi-Mardingding-Lau Belang-Kaban Jahe dalam menghadapi serangan strategi gerilya Jamin Gintings dan mengalami kerugian sangat besar.
Sehingga Belanda tidak mampu meng gerakkan pasukannya sampai menjamah Aceh Tengah (Kutacane). "Dengan stra tegi tersebut, Aceh dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai daerah modal Republik Indo nesia," ujar Usman Pelly.
Akibatnya, selama sekitar delapan bulan, sejak Januari hingga Agustus 1949, Belanda tertahan di Tanah Karo dan terpaksa melupakan serangan ke Ta nah Alas (Kutacane) sampai penyerah an kedaulatan pada 1950.
Strategi dan perjuangan Jamin Gintings, menurut Suprayitno, membuk tikan kepada dunia bahwa pemerintah Republik Indonesia tetap eksis walaupun Yogyakarta dan Pematang Siantar sebagai pusat pemerintahan RI di Jawa dan Sumatra diduduki Belanda. Sekali pun Sukarno dan Hatta pun ditawan Belanda.
Upaya Belanda menghapus RI dan Tentara Republik Indonesia tidak pernah berhasil sampai akhirnya permusuhan Indonesia dan Belanda pun diselesaikan melalui jalur perundingan. Dalam Konferensi Meja Bundar (KMB) pada 23 Agustus 1949, Provinsi Aceh secara utuh dapat didaftarkan sebagai salah satu negara bagian Republik Indonesia Serikat (RIS).
Putra kedua dari Lantak Ginting Su ka itu lahir di Desa Suka, Tanah Karo, 12 Januari 1921. Ia berhasil menye la mat kan Aceh sebagai daerah modal, sekali gus menyelamatkan martabat Re publik Indonesia di dunia internasional. "Di sinilah, antara lain letak kepah la wanan Jamin Gintings secara nasional. Iya layak dinobatkan sebagai pahlawan na sional," cetus sejarawan Suprayitno.
